Pt. Ajeet Kumar Mishra

Pt. Ajeet Kumar Mishra, fondly called as Munna in his native town, Gorakhpur, belongs to a renowned musical gharana of Banaras. He was initiated to vocal music, tabla and classical dance by his father, Kathak Samrat Pt. Chhabinath Mishra. He pursued the learning of vocal music, tabla and dance with great perseverance and devotion, first under the guidance and patronage of veterans like Hiranamayee Tiwari, Pt. Rangnath Mishra, Pt. Sheetal Prasad Mishra, Ganesh Prasad Mishra and Dr. Puru Dhandich, at Bhatkhande Sangeet Mahavidyalaya, Lucknow, and later at Sriram Bhartiya Kala Kendra, Delhi where he got exhaustive training from the masters like Ustad Mustaque Hussain Khan and Mrs. Anita Roy, Ustad Bundu Khan and Padma Shri Maharaj Krishna Kumar.

Prior to subjecting himself to strenuous training under hard task masters in classical music and dance, Mishraji completed Sangeet Parveen from Prayag Sangeet Samiti, Allahabad, UP and Sangeet Visharad from Bhatkhande Sangeet Mahavidyalaya, Lucknow. He took his Masters degree from Indra Kala Sangeet Vishwa Vidayalaya, Khera Garh, Chattisgarh. In fact, learning and imparting training go hand in hand with Panditji who has taken up the job as music teacher in D.A.V. Public School, Dayanand Vihar, Delhi. Prior to this, he was associated for around two decades with Jaijaivantti Sangeet Sansthan in Delhi, an institution established by the well known artiste and poet, Sh. Ashok Chakradhar. And all along , Panditji has been imparting knowledge of classical music to various groups of students in multiple locations in New Delhi.

Simultaneous to his teaching vocation, Pt. Ajeet Kumar Mishra has been persistently undertaking activities to promote and popularise classical music. One such prominent activity that has won him many accolades, has been arranging annual event of Mohd. Rafi Night at Kamani Auditorium in Delhi, besides conducting training courses, producing and directing audio cassettes on Bhojpuri folk music, Hindi albums, and scores of such other activities.

He has been closely associated with Doordarshan where he has not only directed number of programmes but has also given performances. He has been a profuse performer at different fora, besides Doordarshan and has a long list of professional achievements for which he has been honoured with awards from time to time.
